Gotta Dance A-Town

Throngs of women poured into the Atlanta Hawks practice court at Phillips Arena to audition for the 2007-2008 A-Town Dance Team.

Although the overall numbers auditioning were slightly down this year, there were quite a few new faces to go along with returnees still hoping to land one of the sixteen spots on the dance team.

This year the format was modified to give the returning veterans a break from the initial audition phase. While the veterans rested, the aspiring dancers trudged through a grueling five hour day of learning and performing dance routines for a panel of celebrity judges.

By the end of the day, less than half of the entrants remained. As dance team coordinator Donnie Frazier announced the finalists, their squeals of joy were offset by the glum shuffling of the un-chosen gathering their personal belongings before exiting the arena.

At center court the finalists were given the week's itinerary that includes interviews, a boot camp, fitness evaluations, meetings to discuss rules and regulations, a public mixer, and a final audition. The mixer will be held at Ten Pin Alley in Atlantic Station at 8:30 pm.
